My name is Raquel Spears. I have a Master’s Degree in Education in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Kentucky University. I am doubled licensed as both a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York. In addition, I am a Certified Trauma Specialist (CTS) and have extensive training and experience in the treatment of trauma-related difficulties.
I am also a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), a member of the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS), and a member of the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), where I volunteer as the Chautauqua County Chapter Secretary and am on the Board of Directors. In addition, I serve on the Board of Directors for Grandview Farms Training Academy to provide consultation and technical assistance for the organization’s Equine-illustrated Life Skills Training Programs. I am also a Certified Trainer of the Family Development Credential for Family Service Workers through Cornell University and of the Family-to-Family Course Sponsored by NAMI, New York State.
Prior to my private practice, I provided eight (8) years of service as the Program and Clinical Director, as well as Clinical Therapist at Spectrum Care Academy in Cave City, KY, which is a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility for severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents, and their families. I also provide a mulitude of professional training seminars to other providers, family service workers, and professionals in a supervisory role. I also currently work as the Family Growth & Development Manager at Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., a Community Action Agency, where I develop services to facilitate positive mental hygiene and movement toward independence for low-income individuals, supervise direct family service workers, and deliver training to agency staff to increase service impact and effectiveness. |
